It’s not good. It can add years to your look. It looks like loyal Lock & Mane customer Juliana Goldman took our advice. The lovely Juliana (see her “before” look on the right) stopped into Lock & Mane fave Pierre Michel the other day to chop her super long locks and to add some lighter and warmer color. The results were so fab!

Colorist Joanna Pinto did a full head of foil highlights; she went lighter around Juliana’s face and a little warmer towards the back. Juliana then sat under the rotating dryer also called a roller ball (pictured) for 10 minutes (colorists use the roller ball when they want the process to be less abrasive, as the heat is not as strong as the closed drier most people are used to).

After that Juliana headed to the sink and section by section the foils were removed. To add shine to the hair, there was a clear gloss applied for another 10-15 minutes. Then she was washed and rinsed in the AMAZING massage chairs (we fell asleep in them last time we were at PM). Then stylist Donna Ivancou cut 7 ½ inches off her length to add shape and movement to the hair and dried with a round brush. Viola! We love! Check out the process below!

We love America’s Next Top Model almost as much as we love Vogue. So when we were invited to have breakfast with Tyra Banks and Andre Leon Talley yesterday morning at the wonderful restaurant Marea, we screamed HELL YES! We also asked if there would be bacon (there was).

We sat down to chat with Tyra (and her lovely casual low knot), Andre and Lock & Mane BFFs, Fashionista’s Leah Chernikoff and Micah Jesse.

What’d we talk about? Oh the usual. Hair, fashion, funny looking models. Tyra admitted that she experienced some serious hair dreckitude during one of the show’s cycles (You know the one she means. Those frizzy curls with the Dancing With the Stars sequined outfits…oy!).

She also told us that now that she doesn’t have to worry about her daily talk show she can pay more attention to fashion and hair maintenance. We applaud a dedication to self care :- )

What really stuck with us though was how Tyra tries to use Top Model to instill self esteem in young female viewers.

“I am attracted to beauty that is odd. I created Top Model to expand the definition of beauty. We have always chosen some girls who are odd-looking and interesting and different, and this season we did that with all of them,” Banks said. “I feel like when I am telling a girl on Top Model that she is beautiful whether her ears are sticking out, and she is alabaster colored and they call her ghost. When I tell her she is beautiful on the show, I am using her to talk to the girl who is sitting home and feeling insecure about herself. The model is a portal. It’s not a perfect recipe, but it is a recipe I use to get to the girls.”

Love it! Love her! Love the show!!!!

She is stunning and elegant and seriously can do no wrong in our eyes. We reported on her new pixie cut earlier this summer and were initially enamored by it. But then it started growing out. And now it looks like this.

Now kids, try not to be distracted by Cate’s gorgoeus, glowing porcelain skin and sparkling eyes…. admit it- the hair could be a blonde version of Jim Carey’s ‘do from Dumb & Dumber.

Of course your hair is all dried out. This summer was brutal! But never fear, the hair gods are here. You don’t have to cut off all your locks just because they’re looking a little thirsty. Here are 6 tricks to get hair hydrated and totally gorg for fall from Amina Bouchouirab, treatment specialist at one of our fave salons, Pierre Michel.

1. Get a little snip snip. Cut off the ends now to save the rest of your locks tomorrow.

2. Apply a good deep conditioner to hair and then either place a hot towel on your head or if you have a sauna at your gym, place a plastic shower cap on your head in the sauna.

3. Switch your brush. Your hair is sensitive right now. Plastic bristled brushes tend to pull and tear hair. Try a boar bristle brush (such as a Mason Pearson) instead.

4. Skip a day between washes to give your hair a break and to let natural oils work their magic. On days of unwash use a dry shampoo to get rid of noticeable grease.

5. Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner on a daily basis.

6. Air dry, air dry, air dry…just for a week or so until your hair is hydrated. Heating tools just keep sucking out hair’s natural moisture.

Seriously! After the poor showing for rom coms this summer, this tale of long distance love starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long was a blast. What made it awesome wasn’t so much Drew and Justin and the fact that their chemistry is good since they also sometimes date in real life.

No, what made the movie great was a formidable supporting case that included Christina Applegate (lurve), Charlie Day and SNL’s Jason Sudeikis (also know as the guy who has seen January Jones naked). Anywho, Sudeikis sports a serious stache throughout the film (in the hope of bagging a cougar) and we thought it deserved some props of its own. If Jason ever brings that stache on the town we will buy it a drink and be its wing man! Here’s to you buddy!

If you’re going to be a reality television star we expect you to be better groomed. Well it looks like Vienna finally got the hang of it because she has embraced this season’s favorite ‘do, the bob. We love this look on Vienna. it perfectly frames her angular face, looks clean and manicured and frankly adds some much needed maturity to her look.

Vienna took to her Twitter to thank Salon 901. “All thanks to you!! Thank you for the amazing new look,” she tweeted.

We assume she read our post about how long hair is on its way out.

Then someone over in the inventory department got all journalisty on us and found out the real story. Polamalu didn’t insure his own luscious locks, his sponsor, the shampoo company Head & Shoulders took out the policy to protect their investment. That made a little more sense. We apologize for jumping to D-word conclusions.

And frankly we only got judgey because all of us are so enamored with the three feet of locks that Troy shakes out of his helmet in the end zone. We should all have such romance novel cover manes.

What do you think? Are Troy’s locks worth $1 million? Would you ever insure your hair? Or any other body part for that matter?

She’s also rocking a bright red Rodarte dress that kind of looks like kitschy promwear to us, but that’s okay. The updo is phenomenal. It appears to be a side chignon with a small braid or twist at the nape of the neck. Beautiful, no?

Check out the pics below for different views of Natalie’s locks. Black Swan, which premieres this December, is a thriller about a veteran ballet dancer (Natalie) and her cunning rival, played by Mila Kunis. Check out the trailer here. It’s intense. The film looks very All About Eve and Single White Female… but with a ballet backdrop. Hmmm.

The color is beautiful as well. We love all the caramel highlights we’ve been seeing for Fall, don’t you?

Take a look at her back muscles in this third photo. Ridiculous. Excuse us while we head to the gym.

Ok, so yesterday we asked you guys if Jo should get a pixie. We are anxiously awaiting your responses. She’s a sucker for peer pressure so if enough of you say yes she will probably do it. Our dear friend Valerie Anderson, the genius lady behind the site Hair on the Brain, saw Jo’s query and our new obsession with all things pixie and offered some pearls of wisdom on taking the pixie plunge:

It’s been so hot in LA this week. Whenever the weather is like this, I contemplating how lovely it would be to cut off all my hair, ala Jean Seberg in Breathless. But then the desert sun sets, my body heat regulates, and I remember that my face is not elfinly perfect, I don’t have Halle Berry cheekbones, and the thought of growing out it out makes me itchy. But for those of you brave souls considering the pixie plunge, let’s talk straight. You are a perfect candidate for a pixie, if you…

Have a petite face with amazing bone structure. Pixies definitely work best on small faces, but it doesn’t stop there. It also requires high cheekbones and delicate bone structure. Don’t believe me? See Halle Berry, Audrey Hepburn, Mia Farrow, Jean Seberg…

Have huge eyes. You know that doe-eyed, gamine look that all the iconic pixie girls have? That’s because their eyes are scary-huge and their shorn hair only accentuates their major eyes. See Emma Watson!

Have a heart-shaped/oval face shape. These face shapes work best for a pixie. A round face is out since a pixie will only accentuate the roundness. And remember, you’re basically cutting off all your hair. So make sure you really dig your face because there won’t be any hair to hide behind!

Have a great stylist. Please do not trust the stylist who happens to have a walk-in appointment at your salon to do your pixie. This is a serious haircut, not like long-layers or something, which is hard to screw up too badly. A pixie is a complicated and needs to have the property proportions. Your stylist should be experience and well recommended. Just think, if they screw up, they can’t cut a little more to fix it if there is no more hair. And while a pixie is much easier to style than long hair (you can kiss your blow dryer and flat iron goodbye!) it will need a lot of trims to keep it looking tight, so you’ll be seeing your stylist frequently.

Don’t care about my dumb rules. There is an undeniable element of risk involved in the pixie. It takes a bold, fearless woman to cut off all her hair. So, if you’re reading these rules and thinking: Screw her and her stupid list. I’ll do what I want! The pixie is definitely for you.
