How To Get Beach Hair When You Hate Going In The Ocean

Monday, August 9th, 2010

There are two kinds of people in this world: those who enjoy “activities” while vacationing (i.e., surfing, jetskiing, parasailing), and those who prefer to sunbathe and sip cocktails. I’m in the latter camp but actually even more lame: I prefer to sip cocktails under an umbrella lathered in SPF 70+, wearing a large floppy hat to cover my white vampire skin.  That’s all I like to do. No sightseeing, no water sports, no horseplay in the pool. I’m fine for a good 5 to 7 days camped under my umbrella with a little man bringing me frozen drinks.

But how, you may ask, does one achieve “tousled” beachy hair when one hates the water? Beach spray! Our Miami Beach Spray road test commenced with the fabulous Alterna Caviar Beach Spray. Watch how it makes my super straight locks wavy and beachy. It’s almost as if I left the umbrella!

p.s. Like my headband? It’s L. Erickson’s Narrow Derby Headwrap. January Jones likes it too. She wore it in black to the Golden Globes.

You Put Sunscreen on Your Bod…Why Not Your Hair?

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Jackie and Jo traveled to South Beach this weekend to road test beach sprays, frolic in the sand and sip piña coladas in pool chairs. But since they were spending so much time al fresco they wanted to make sure to protect their pretty locks from sun and chlorine damage with Oscar Blandi’s fabulous Capri Sun Shield Spray.

The hair protector is made from grape seed oil, a Southern Italian Century-old hair secret Jo’s super Italian family approves of (as they also keep asking us to put olive oil in our hair!). The spray also provides an “invisible shield” for your hair to help protect color from fading.

It just makes good sense. We spend a lot of money to make our hair look good. Why let a few days in the sun let it all go to waste? Check out the video of Jo road-testing the spray in SoBe.

Accessories in the Wild: South Beach!!!

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

One of the things we love best about going on vacation is packing. Yes, packing! We know that a lot of people think of putting clothes in a suitcase as a chore, but we love it. The whole process of picking out outfits for each and every possible vacation scenario is a delight. We imagine all the fun we’ll have, what shoes we’ll wear, the jewelry and of course the hair accessories.

You guys know how much our hair accessories mean to us. We firmly believe they can make or break any outfit or hairstyle. They brighten up a look, they help your face glow and no matter how you feel about your butt or your neck, a hair accessory is always going to fit and will never make you look old.

That’s why we spent some serious time thinking about what look we wanted our hair accessories to convey when we visited South Beach this weekend. Obviously we were going for some fun in the sun so we wanted something bright and beachy. What better to compliment our tans (slowly curated by Jackie with 70 SPF and something more brazen for Jo) than the gorg L. Erickson narrow derby silk headwrap. We love these head wraps because of how well-crafted and colorful they are, but also because of their sturdiness. You put this puppy on in the morning and your hair is set for the day. These bad boys were perfect for our days of pool sitting and pina colada drinking.

Nighttime was a whole different story. On Saturday we dined at the Delano hotel’s amazing Blue Sea sushi restaurant with a dear friend. Jackie went with a very minimalist, but chic black frock which she dressed up and completely sexified with a Eugenia Kim Alexis turban.

Think you can’t wear a turban unless you’re Carrie Bradshaw? You’re wrong. This is an accessory that looks a little scary and overdone at first, but once on it makes you look like a very stylish princess. If you’re going to tak one fashion risk this season this is the one you should take.

L&M’s Summer Secret For Gorgeous Hair

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Hair is terribly tricky in these here summer months, which is why even we (hair goddesses that we are) sometimes throw up our hands and wrap our wet hair into a bun and scream ENOUGH (like Jennifer Lopez) and go through the day with a wet head.

This is what it looks like from the outside, but our little secret is that on the days when we decide to go wethead, we’re actually giving our locks a spa day. Your hair is going to be wet and tied back with a pony holder anyway, so why not super-load it with all of the healthy ingredients it needs to refresh itself?

When we’re feeling decadent we like to run some of Leonor Greyl’s Huile de Palme through our locks before pulling them back.

But your hair will be just as happy if you condition as per usual and then forget rinsing and  just leave it to soak in….all day long.

So next time you see one of us with our hair in a wet bun just give us that knowing nod. Our locks are gonna look so fab when we finally let them down.

Where in the World Is Jo Using Dry Shampoo?

Friday, July 16th, 2010

YouTube Preview Image Peru! The Peruvian rainforest to be exact, where it is almost always at 75% humidity and 100% frizzy-making all of the time. Living on the Amazon river for a week I haven’t had an abundance of opportunities to shower (and absolutely no opps for a hot shower) so I have been getting by (and looking fab) with a little help from our pal Oscar and his delightful Pronto Invisible dry shampoo. Right now I am going on about four days of unwash and some build-up from a mud bath I took in the river, but I have to say the Pronto Invisible has saved the day once again and turned what could be a hair disaster into some fab jungle waves.
