Welcome Back Jonathan!

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

jantin_02Trust us, we’ve missed him just as much as you have (except we get to talk to him every once in awhile). Yes, the rumors are true, starting on February 3, Jonathan Antin, the man behind all of the wonderful Jonathan products we carry, will be a judge on the fab Bravo series “Shear Genius.”

If you haven’t tuned into “Shear Genius” before (this is the third season, but we know it’s taken awhile to catch on; I mean, it isn’t “The Real Housewives”), it isn’t too late to become a fan. SG is a little like “Top Chef,” except with hair stylists instead of chefs (and this way no one gets chunky).

International model and handbag designer Camilla Alves will make her hosting debut with Jonathan this season. We think she has even better hair than Padma!!! For more dets on the show check out the Bravo page. And stay tuned here in February for exclusive interviews with Jonathan, the show’s contestants, and some very special guest bloggers.

Getting the Snookie ‘Do

Monday, December 28th, 2009

snooki-from-jersey-shoreWe hate to admit it, but we have been watching “The Jersey Shore” on MTV. How can we not? It has to be the trashiest of trash television we have seen in a long time. And because hair is our thing, we couldn’t help but wonder just how “Snookie” does her do. After much debate amongst ourselves (and oh so many bottles of hairspray) we think we have it down pat. So just in case you want to do the Snookie, here are some tips on how to obtain super straight long locks with a super poof on top. (And if you think the show is as hilarious as we do check out Alyssa Milano’s Snookie transformation at Funny or Die.)

First off, Snookie has very, very shiny locks. To restore the shine in your mane we recommend a shine treatment, like Global Goddess Coconut Amla Revitalizing Treatment or Oscar Blandi’s Jasmine Shine Spray.

Second, no way her hair comes out of the shower and just dries that way. No sir. We estimate the Snook is on average drying and straightening for about an hour. It’s a lot, we know. But if she is using the right tools like the T3 Bespoke Featherweight and the BaByliss Nano Titanium, finished off with a Mason Pearson Mixed Boar Bristle Brush, that time could be cut in half.

Blow, straighten, brush, blow a little more. All of this is elementary (sorry we just saw Sherlock!). Now comes the poof. We wish we had a better name for it but we don’t.
First add some texture to the roots since hair will be silky smooth all over after all the heat treats. We recommend Jonathan’s Dirt Texturizing Paste or even his sweet smelling Silky Dirt for added shine. Next tease the roots from the scalp out with a fine tooth comb, spraying along the way with Philip B. Maui Wowie Beach Spray. This is the shore after all. The spray will help add volume and height. Finish up with some high shine hair spray and pull back with a serious pony or blinging jaw clip. Think that’s too much product? On The Jersey Shore? Never!

And there you have it. You’re all set to hit the shore with Snookie and her pals. Just try not to get punched in the face.

Get Rachel McAdam’s Sherlock Locks

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

rachel-mcadamsWe just love Rachel McAdams’ Victorian high crown and braid at the London Sherlock Holmes premiere. We love Ms. McAdams generally (The Notebook … sigh) but this was a particularly spectacular do.

Here are the Lock & Mane tips and product recommendations on how to achieve her look:

  1. Run a texturizing paste like Jonathan’s Dirt through clean dry hair to make the hair malleable to the style.
  2. Obtain body at the crown of the head using a soft bristle round brush to tease the hair four inches from the root to add height.
  3. Spray the top of the head with a super lightweight spray to maintain the shape and add additional texture without weighing hair down.
  4. Braid the back of the hair into a loose long braid. Add additional spray one the braid is fixed and secure with a Victorian-style pony.

And voilà! You’ve got her gorgeous look. Before you know it, Ryan Gossling and Josh Lucas will be knocking at your door!

L&M Holiday Gift Ideas!

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

get-dirty-kitHere’s a fabulous gift idea from hair genius and celeb stylist, Jonathan Antin. The Get Dirty Kit is an adorable collection of Jonathan’s bestselling Dirt styling products. The idea behind this amazing styling line is that sometimes hair looks better the day after you wash and style it. Sound familiar? We interviewed Mr. Antin a few weeks back and he told us that the Dirt products “help tame the hair and make it feel like ‘the day after’ – more moldable and pliable.” The bestselling clarifying shampoo helps reduce buildup from styling products and environmental factors, while the Texturizing Paste adds definition, control and shine. And not to mention the bestselling celeb fave Spray Dirt Hairspray — perfect to hold a texturized style while adding body and brilliant shine. And how cute is the packaging? We’re obsessed. A wonderful little gift for friends and fam!
